January 21 2025 Montana Department of Commerce secured a $7 million grant from the U.S. Department of Housing and Urban Development (HUD) to speed up the construction of affordable, attainable housing in Montana. (Commerce MT)

January 21 2025 The Montana Department of Natural Resources and Conservation (DNRC), Stillwater Unit is proposing to harvest timber on six isolated parcels of state land around the towns of Rexford, West Kootenai and Eureka, Montana. The proposal would harvest approximately 5 to 7 million board feet within a 3,275 acre project area (DNRC MT)

Jan 22, 2025 Montana’s ranchers face challenges of harsh winters and managing conflicts with predators like grizzly bears. A recent U.S. Fish & Wildlife Service ruling pumped the brakes on removing grizzlies from the endangered species list, also putting ranchers' hopes of clarity on the back burner. January 23 2025 The Montana Department of Commerce announced today that more than $3.2 million of federal funding has been allocated to build new or preserve affordable homes in four Montana communities. The funding is through Commerce’s Housing Trust Fund and HOME Investment Partnerships Program. (MT Commerce)

The following will receive HOME Investment Partnerships Program funding:

  • HomeFront will receive $982,000 for the rehabilitation of Laurel Gardens in Laurel.

  • Skyview Residences LLLP will receive $350,000 for new construction of the Skyview Residences in Billings.

  • The Housing Company will receive $416,100 for new construction of the Homestead Apartments in Dillon.

  • United Housing Partners LLC will receive $1,517,100 for new construction of the Hidden Creek Apartments in Bozeman

Jan 23, 2025 GREAT FALLS, Mont. – The City of Great Falls is inviting residents to share their opinions and vision for the city's future through a newly launched Growth Policy Survey. (Fairfield Sun Times)

Jan 24, 2025 Valley Garden Fishing Access Site on the Madison River near Ennis is fully closed due to a large ice jam on the river, causing water and ice to inundate the entrance road, boat ramp and campground. (FWP MT)

January 24th 2025 A bipartisan group of lawmakers are all in on a proposal to raise video gambling limits and winnings in Montana for the first time since 1987. The bill, which would apply to machines placed into operation beginning in 2026, raises the maximum bet limit from $2 to $4 dollars and the maximum payout per play from $800 to $1,199, which is just below the $1,200 threshold where gamblers and the business must fill out a W-2G tax form with the federal government. January 24, 2025 - Montana companies are assisting with firefighting efforts in southern California. At Neptune Aviation, an aerial firefighting company based in Missoula, maintenance crews work throughout the winter to keep their fleet ready to deploy across the country. Neptune’s hangar is buzzing with activity. Around a dozen mechanics are spread out across two of the company’s BA 146 airplanes. (MTPR)

January 25, 2025 - Council to vote on controversial multi-family development in the Heights. A 670-unit multi-family development north of High Sierra Boulevard was approved by the planning department and rejected by the zoning commission. Nearby homeowners oppose the development. (Billings Gazette)

Jan 20, 2025 - Everhome Suites is nearing completion west of Rosauers in Bozeman, Montana. The new 4-story hotel will feature 113-rooms and is part of a larger hotel chain, Choice Hotels International Inc. They will be apartment-style rooms with full kitchens, spa-like bathrooms, and a few will include washers and dryers. (Bozeman Real Estate Group)

On Jan 20, 2025 - An application has been submitted for a hotel at the current location of the Salvation Army in downtown Bozeman. The application was submitted for a Canopy Hotel, which is owned by Hilton and is in the initial review phase. The application states it will be 1 building, 70 ft tall. (Bozeman Real Estate Group)

January 21, 2025 - City approves Guthrie development (KBZK)

January 21, 2025 - Montana State University will spend up to $50.5 million for projects to improve energy efficiency and address deferred maintenance in campus buildings – beginning what will be one of the largest investments in sustainability in MSU history. Under the new contract, about 2.5 million square feet of building space are scheduled for upgrades. They include: (MSU News)

  • $9 million in energy efficient lighting upgrades for about 20 buildings.

  • $20 million in building mechanical system upgrades in three buildings.

  • $17 million in Heat Plant system upgrades.

  • $1 million in plumbing fixture upgrades.

  • $3.5 million in piping upgrades for geothermal well systems that store and share energy between buildings.

January 22, 2025 Montana State University will host two robotics competitions for Montana youth Feb. 7-8 representing nearly 100 teams from across the state. The events are free and open to the public. (MSU News)

January 24th 2025 - Bozeman’s Urban Parks and Forestry board discussed a relaunch of the city’s cash-in-lieu of park land program. As the number of applications for large developments and multifamily projects increased over the past seven years, so has the city’s cash-in-lieu of park land fund, which is why the city is exploring formally relaunching it as a community grants program. History

The former Glasgow Air Force Base (AFB) is situated 18 miles north of the town of Glasgow, in Valley County, Montana. Glasgow is in the northeastern portion of the state, within 40 miles of the Canadian border and 125 miles west of the North Dakota state boundary. The property occupies approximately 6,000 acres, has a 13,500-foot landing strip, and had approximately 140 buildings. Several buildings in various stages of degradation exist at the site.

The former Glasgow AFB was established in 1955 and construction began in 1959. It became a Strategic Air Command facility in 1960. Closure of the former Glasgow AFB began in 1968. The Department of Defense (DOD) leased portions of the former Glasgow AFB to businesses that produced a variety of products and to other state and federal agencies.

The General Services Administration conveyed ownership of the base to Valley County Airport Enterprises in 1977. Currently there are several landowners. The Montana Aviation Research Company (MARCO) - a subsidiary of Boeing and North Valley County own a majority of the base proper. (DEQ MT .DOCX LINK)
