Nov 20, 2024 Legalized marijuana paving way for future farmers One Montana marijuana dispensary owner believes cannabis brings a new style of farming “Ranching and farming has been a survival for the last 30 years in Montana. And I'm really hopeful that ... cannabis has its place to coexist. Montana State Cannabis online reports there are now over 400 dispensaries across the state. It's Montanans supplying Montanans with good paying jobs.” The Montana Department of Revenue reports that sales between January 2022 and October 2024 totaled over $893 million and almost $148 million in taxes. Nov 21, 2024 BILLINGS — St. Vincent Regional Hospital unveiled a nearly $1 billion construction plan to build a new facility that will open in 2029. Construction for the project will begin in the spring of 2025. (KBZK)

November 22, 2024 The Montana Department of Commerce announced today that 26 local safety agencies will share more than $1.4 million of grant funding to support tourism-related emergency service projects in rural areas. The funding is through Commerce’s Montana Emergency Tourism Assistance Grant Program. (Commerce Montana)

November 22, 2024 BILLINGS — A Billings construction company owner accused of not paying federal income tax on his business and directing his bookkeeper to improperly categorize personal expenses as business expenses admitted to a tax crime today, U.S. Attorney Jesse Laslovich said. Nov 22, 2024 Randy Arnston, a resident of Dawson County, officially petitioned for the establishment of interim zoning regulations for industrial developments before the Dawson County Commission during its meeting on Tuesday, backed by just over 100 other residents from the surrounding area.

Discussion about the Glendive Wind Project, a planned renewable energy development spearheaded by NextEra Energy, has recently monopolized the time at meetings of are county commissions as residents in the project’s path express concerns about their rights as landowners being violated.

NextEra is a utility company based in Florida with wind, solar, electricity and nuclear energy infrastructure across North America working to invest more than $1.05 billion in eastern Montana, specifically Dawson, McCone and Prairie counties. (Terry Tribune)

November 24, 2024 The Montana Department of Environmental Quality has stopped a public review of two permits for the Montanore Mine. The proposed Montanore mine in northwestern Montana would bore beneath the Cabinet Mountains to extract copper and silver. (Bonner County Daily Bee)

Nov 24, 2024 Dylan Lencioni, owner of 406 Processing & Taxidermy says he and his team are working 12-hour days, seven days a week to accommodate for the end of hunting season. And although busy, he looks forward to the long days ahead this last week of general hunting season, cutting 50-60 animals a day. (KRTV)

Nov 24, 2024 FORT BENTON — It’s been a couple of years in the making but Shay and Katie Richter of Fort Benton have finally achieved their goal of bringing more housing opportunity to the town. The couple have been working to finalize the development of 23 lots on a piece of land that was annexed by the town of Fort Benton just a few months ago. (KRTV)

November 19, 2024 The Bozeman Yellowstone International Airport received a $10 million award from the Federal Aviation Administration’s Airport Terminal Program as part of the Bipartisan Infrastructure Bill. The awarded funds will further support ongoing construction of the Bozeman airport’s East Terminal Expansion Project, a multi-million and multi-phase project devoted to strengthening, modernizing and expanding terminal infrastructure. November 21, 2024 BOZEMAN — Montana State University engineering students will showcase their senior projects Thursday, Dec. 5, in Norm Asbjornson Hall on the MSU campus during the biannual Design Fair. Work by 52 students on 15 projects and 15 posters will be on display from 2 to 4 p.m. The event is free and open to the public. (MSU News)

November 21, 2024 Montana ranks fifth in the U.S. for the growth of its research enterprise. In three of the past five years, he said, Montana has ranked in the top 10 for research growth. The University of Montana was recently invited to apply for a National Science Foundation grant focused on forest and rangeland technology, and if the university is successful, the project could bring $160 million to this state and Idaho during the next decade. November 23, 2024 Notice of Public hearing taking place on 12/10/24 regarding Bozeman Fiber Inc - TEFRA. The Bonds are expected to be issued in a maximum principal amount of $50,000,000. The Project is expected to initially be owned by Bozeman Fiber, Inc., d/b/aYellowstone Fiber (the “Bozeman Fiber”) and operated by the Utah Telecommunication Open Infrastructure Agency, an interlocal cooperative and separate legal entity, body politic and corporate and a political subdivision of the State of Utah. Gallatin Valley Malt

Last week Shine Beer Sanctuary in Bozeman hosted a Tap Takeover Event that included 14 beers that were brewed with Gallatin Valley Malt from 14 Breweries. They also hosted a Malt 101 course put on by the Gallatin Valley Malt operation out of Manhattan, MT. I spoke with Gallatin Valley Malt concluding the event asking about a tour, I visited the farm the following day. 

Founded in 2017, Gallatin Valley Malt Co. started as a big idea on a small town family farm to add value to one of our farm's main crops, barley. As we delved deeper into the world of malting, we came to realize the same care and quality important to growing and harvesting superior grains is also vital to producing the ingredients needed to create exceptional beers and spirits.

Gallatin Valley Malt controls the entire malting process from growing barley, harvest, to steeping/germination, and drying in the kiln, and later sending the finished grain product to the brewer. History of the week

The Bozeman Roundup Stadium was constructed during the summer of 1919 on a four-block tract just south of the present fairgrounds. The cost to construct it was $28,000. The grandstand would seat 2,800 people. In 1926 the structure was struck by lightning and partially burned. It was torn down in 1932.
