July 28, 2025 Reintroduced Wolves Are Helping Baby Aspen Trees Flourish in Northern Yellowstone for the First Time in 80 Years, Study Suggests. The apex predators, restored to the park in 1995, appear to be keeping the local population of plant-eating elk in check, which allows aspen saplings to grow tall and healthy. (Smithsonian)
July 28, 2025 As Montana courts data centers and leaders mull ways to encourage artificial intelligence developments, lawmakers are looking into the state’s power generation capacity as part of the Energy and Technology Interim Committee. July 29, 2025 Intermountain Health celebrated the beginning of construction of its new Billings, Montana Consolidated Services Center with a groundbreaking ceremony at the site of the future facility, located off Elysian Road, south of I-90. This new facility will be the first large medical supply warehouse of its kind in Montana. (Intermountain Health)
July 31, 2025 (BILLINGS, Mont.) – This week, 20 workers at Boise Cascade’s Billings walked off the job early Tuesday evening and went on strike demanding fair wage increases and improved health care benefits after months of stalled contract negotiations. (Teamster)
July 31, 2025 Four conservation groups sue to stop logging project near Whitefish. The lawsuit claims that the Cyclone Bill Logging Project, which is approximately 13 miles west of Whitefish, will cut and burn on more than 12,000 acres, which includes habitat of the Canada lynx and grizzly bears, both of which are protected by the Endangered Species Act. Colorado, California, and Montana are among the states that have recently required safeguarding brain data collected by devices outside of medical settings. (Daily Montanan)
Jul 31, 2025 A rancher near Lewistown made a surprising discovery that could help scientists learn more about a mysterious time in dinosaur history. In 2017, Kevin Conners discovered part of a dinosaur tailbone on his property, and contacted the Museum of the Rockies to excavate and donate the bones. (KBZK)
August 1, 2025 NorthWestern Energy this week signed a letter of intent to provide 1,000 megawatts of energy to the Texas-based AI tech company Quantica Infrastructure. It will be used to power a data center the company is developing in Montana. Once built, it would be the largest data center in the state. (MTPR)
