May 4, 2025 Demand for electricity in the Northwest could double by 2046, according to a new energy forecast from regional experts. The projected growth will come primarily from companies building more data centers in the region, more electric vehicles on roads, electrifying buildings, computer chip manufacturing and the production of “green hydrogen” created by running an electrical current through water to split the molecules into hydrogen and oxygen. Red line elevation band

“Redbelt” is occurring around the Bridgers, Gallatin’s, and Yellowstone Valley. The elevation band of red trees is the give away for winter desiccation. The air gets warm enough that the needles start photosynthesis but the ground is frozen so they can’t replace the lost moisture. Beetle kill will start out as random pockets of red dead trees. It doesn't typically kill the trees. (DNRC Field guide to diseases & insects pests of northern & central Rocky Mountain) & Reddit Conversation)
